BARMM vows to protect children

Cotabato City -  The Bangsamoro government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and ensuring their well-being, pledging to intensify efforts to create a safe and fear-free future for the region's youth.
This commitment was highlighted during the Children's Month celebration held on November 16 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC) here.

The event, themed "Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Bangsamoro," addressed the alarming prevalence of violence against children in the region.

BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim emphasized the timeliness of the celebration, stating that it directly tackles the critical issue of child protection.

"Children are our nation's most precious assets," Ebrahim asserted.

"Today's celebration reaffirms our commitment to their well-being in alignment with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child," he said.

The event also saw the launch of the Regional Plan of Action for Children (RPAC) for 2024-2028. This comprehensive plan aims to create a safer environment for children by addressing various challenges they face, including the lasting effects of decades of conflict and instability.

"We must acknowledge the significant challenges faced by children in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region," Ebrahim stressed.

"Decades of conflict and instability have negatively impacted their lives, and we still grapple with ongoing child protection issues and violence," Ebrahim further said.

Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) Minister Raissa Jajurie emphasized the Philippines' commitment as a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

She highlighted the importance of ensuring children's right to survival, healthy development, and protection from all forms of violence, including physical, mental, and sexual abuse, trafficking, and kidnapping.

Jajurie further emphasized the importance of children's right to education and their right to participate in decisions that affect them.

"Children have the right to make decisions and to be heard against things that affect them," she said.

The Children's Month celebration and the launch of the RPAC serve as a strong statement of the Bangsamoro government's commitment to creating a brighter future for its children. The government is dedicated to working towards a region where all children can grow up safe, healthy, and empowered.
