DSWD Northern Mindanao will help manage MILF decommissioned combatants

Cotabato City - The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Northern Mindanao (DSWD-10) will help manage decommissioned combatants (DCs) from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a Philippine News Agency report said Monday, February 24.
Relative to this, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed Monday, between DSWD-10 and offices in Regions 9 (Western Mindanao) and 12 (Soccsksargen).

The MOA signing was supervised by DSWD Undersecretary Alan Tanhusay and Assistant Secretary Arnel Garcia.

It is recalled that before this new development, DSWD-12 oversees all MILF DCs, but officials said that a decentralized approach would be more sustainable.

"The management of MILF DCs will now be assumed by DSWD field offices 9 and 10," a statement said.

The decommissioning of former MILF combatants is part of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro signed in 2014 between the government and the MILF at Malacanang Palace ground.
