Prof. Lingga authored book 'Advancing Bangsamoro Aspiration', formally launched in Cotabato City

Prof Lingga is the founder of the Institute of Bangsamoro Studies (IBS) and a prominent figure within the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The event was a collaboration between the Institute of Bangsamoro Studies and partner organizations, including the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPCS) based in Cambodia, Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc., and support from the Miseor and the Bangsamoro Cultural Heritage.
During her inspirational message, Ms. Emma Leslie, founder of CPCS, highlighted the extensive process involved in the book's writing, which spanned several years. She emphasized that it is not merely a narrative but also a recognition of the challenges faced and lessons learned through ongoing negotiations. The book aims to keep alive the voices of the Bangsamoro people, especially for the younger generations who must understand their heritage and aspirations.
"The book is an active chronicle that captures the ongoing story of the Bangsamoro, as it is special to its homeland and exists in recognition of its unique narrative," Ms. Leslie remarked. She elaborated on the journey of the Bangsamoro people, their identity, history, and contributions to the Philippines, encapsulating their struggles for self-determination.
Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and technical Education (MBHTE) and Chairman of MILF Peace Implementing Panel, who is a longtime colleague of Prof. Lingga, praised the author as one of the few intellectuals dedicated to articulating the Bangsamoro narrative.
He noted that writing such a comprehensive work requires organized thought and a deep understanding of history, which will ultimately guide future generations in their pursuit of peace and progress.
Minister Iqbal further remarked on the book's emphasis on the isolation experienced by the Bangsamoro, highlighting themes such as early democratic governance, collective journeys, inclusive governance, the role of third-party mediators, and a political analysis of the human experiences tied to their struggles.
"It calls for reflection and dialogue, essential elements for peace and development in the region," he said.
The book’s launch was well-received, with copies reproduced thanks to the support of CPCS, ensuring distribution across universities, libraries, and even outreach to other countries. This initiative aims to inspire continuous dialogue and a deeper understanding of the aspirations of the Bangsamoro people.
“Advancing Bangsamoro Aspiration” is more than just a book; it is a vital source in educating future generations about the rich history and the struggle for self-determination by the Bangsamoro people.
