Bangsamoro students conquer National Science Quest

Cotabato City - The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) Schools Division Office of Special Geographic Area (SDO-SGA) celebrated a triumphant showing at the 21st National Science Quest, held from February 21 to 23, 2025. The delegation, composed of gifted students and dedicated coaches, secured several top positions in various categories, showcasing the region's growing excellence in science and mathematics.
The National Science Quest, themed "Harnessing Scientific Innovation to Build a Resilient and Sustainable Future," brought together the nation's brightest young minds to showcase their scientific research, ideas, and problem-solving skills.
 
SDO-SGA students excelled in categories such as Sudoku, Sci-Dama, science quizzes, and the Science Spelling Bee.  

Among the standout performers were:
 
- Alliazer A. Hedo (Grade 3): Ranked 6th in the Science Individual Quiz (Coach: Noraima L. Asek, Nalapaan ES, Malidegao 2 Cluster)
 
- Siraj Al-Din A. Zumbaga (Grade 4):  Ranked 7th in Sudoku (Coach: Meriam M. Andik, Nalapaan ES, Malidegao 2 Cluster)
 
- Almera P. Salaban (Grade 6):  Ranked 7th in the Science Individual Quiz and 9th in the Science Spelling Bee (Coach: Johaila M. Pagagao, Nalapaan ES, Malidegao 2 Cluster)
 
- Bai Hannifa Kudto (Grade 6): Ranked 11th in the Science Spelling Bee (Coach: Johaila M. Pagagao, Nalapaan ES, Malidegao 2 Cluster)
 
- Al Jour Keen Paidumama (Grade 4): Ranked 6th in Sci-Dama (Coach: Tasil L. Paidumama Jr., Nabundas ES, Malidegao 1 Cluster)
 
- Bea Nurelle Sabandal (Grade 6): Ranked 11th in the Science Spelling Bee (Coach: Guiaria M. Mantawil, Siento Trenta ES, Old Kaabacan Cluster)
 
- Princess Jameah Saban (Grade 9): Ranked 8th in Sci-Dama (T.H.I.) (Coach: Loramae L. Faunillo, Manuangan High School, Datu Binasing Annex, Pahamuddin Cluster 1)
 
- Mohaliden Guiamla (Mindanao Islamic Foundation Polytechnic College Inc.): Ranked 6th in the Individual Quiz Bee and 11th in the Environmental Science Quiz (Coach: Sir Solaiman K. Abdulkadil)
 
SDO-SGA Division Superintendent Edgar Sumapal expressed immense pride in the students' accomplishments.  

"We are proud to showcase the talents and skills of our students in science and technology. This event provides a valuable opportunity for them to learn, share knowledge, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills," Sumapal said.
 
The success of the SDO-SGA delegation was a testament to the hard work of the technical working group, including Sheryna Mamalangkap, and Zandra Sampigat from OSDS, Editha Sumanting, School Head of MHS Datu Binasing Annex, Geny Rose Sultan, School Head of Pigcawayan National High School Patot Annex of Pahamuddin Municipality, as well as the leadership of Science Education Program Supervisor (EPSVR) Mayla Butuan and Math EPSVR Ali Zumbaga.
 
Fruit Godoy-Baisa, President of the Association of Science Educators in the Philippines (ASEP), reaffirmed the organization's commitment to fostering STEM excellence in the Bangsamoro region.  

"We will continue to support and nurture our students' talents, providing them with opportunities to excel in their chosen fields," Godoy-Baisa said.
 
The 21st National Science Quest, organized by the Department of Education and the Department of Science and Technology, served as a platform for young academics and inventors to showcase their abilities, inspiring future generations of scientists and mathematicians. The exceptional performance of the SDO-SGA representatives highlights the region's growing recognition in national academic contests and paves the way for further successes in the years to come.
