BARMM Chief Minister vows peaceful 2025 midterm elections, assures security measures in place

Cotabato City – Newly appointed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua has assured the public of a peaceful and orderly 2025 midterm elections in the region, vowing to implement robust security measures to address any potential threats.
During a courtesy visit to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Intramuros, Manila on Thursday, Macacua emphasized the BARMM's commitment to a peaceful electoral process. He acknowledged the recent uptick in election-related violence in Cotabato City and Maguindanao del Sur, citing the recent gun attack on a vice mayoral aspirant in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur.
 
"Since the president instructed me to institute a peace and order in BARMM then we committed to that, especially in this coming election, 2025 elections. Kasi kailangan din naming i-address yun (Because we need to address that) because one way to show to the world that BARMM is now sustaining peace and order situation particularly related to the elections," Macacua said in a press conference.
 
The BARMM Chief Minister stated that he has already coordinated with security forces to deploy the necessary personnel to ensure a safe and secure environment for the elections.
 
“This time around we will assure the Comelec and the President that we will do everything to neutralize all those concerns related in peace and order in BARMM," Macacua added.
 
The Comelec has previously identified 32 areas in the BARMM as high-risk due to grave threats and concerns, highlighting the need for proactive security measures.
