Dr. Mohammad Yacob Appointed as BARMM Senior Minister, Replaces Abunawas Maslamama

Dr. Yacob’s appointment was made during a session of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament, signifying a key shift in the leadership of the interim government. As Senior Minister, Yacob is now tasked with overseeing the daily operations of the BARMM bureaucracy and coordinating efforts across various ministries to support Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim’s governance agenda.
Having served as the first MAFAR Minister since the establishment of BARMM in 2019, Yacob is widely recognized for championing agricultural development, food security, and inclusive economic growth. Under his stewardship, MAFAR rolled out numerous programs that empowered farmers, fisherfolk, and Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs), and formed partnerships with development institutions to enhance service delivery in rural areas.
Dr. Yacob succeeds Abunawas Maslamama, who previously held the post of Senior Minister and also played a vital role in supporting the regional government's administrative and policy functions. MAFAR, in its Facebook post, expressed gratitude to Dr. Yacob for his years of dedicated leadership and welcomed his new appointment with optimism and support.
As the BARMM government transitions under new leadership in key ministries, the region anticipates sustained progress in governance and development, especially as Dr. Yacob brings with him years of experience in public service and a strong background in agricultural reform.
