UBJP Vice President Urges Newly Elected Officials to Uphold Movement’s Values

Hon. Mohagher Iqbal, Vice President of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) and Vice President for Central Mindanao, conveyed a message to party members and newly elected officials, emphasizing the importance of governance rooted in justice, humility, and historical awareness.
In a statement issued following the recent electoral process, Iqbal congratulated UBJP candidates who earned the public’s trust, describing their victories as both a political milestone and a continuation of the Bangsamoro people’s long-standing struggle for self-determination.

“The Bangsamoro cause was never born from elections,” he  stated. “It was forged in sacrifice, in resistance, and in the tireless pursuit of justice.”

Iqbal, also the Chairman of the MILF Peace Implementing Panel, reminded party members that the movement’s origins lay in a history of conflict and marginalization, and that today’s political gains were made possible through both armed struggle and the subsequent peace process.

He urged newly elected officials to carry out their duties not for personal gain but as a reflection of the collective aspirations of the Bangsamoro people. “Your victory must reflect not your name, but the values of the movement that brought you here,” he said.
The UBJP vice-president called on members to remember the sacrifices of those who came before them, including those who lost their lives in the pursuit of peace and justice.

“The real battle now lies in building institutions that reflect our highest principles,” Iqbal said, stressing the need for sincerity in leadership and service.

The message concluded with a call to action for continued dedication to the cause, underscoring that while armed conflict has ceased, the work of institution-building and realizing the Bangsamoro vision is far from over.

The UBJP was formed as the political arm of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and aims to provide a platform for the meaningful political participation of the Bangsamoro people. The party advocates for the realization of social justice, peace, and inclusive development within and even outside the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The party continues to work toward promoting governance that is transparent, accountable, and rooted in the values of the Bangsamoro struggle for self-determination.
