Maguindanao’s New Leaders Meet MILF Chairman to Strengthen Ties and Advance Moral Governance

Recently elected officials from Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur visited Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chairman and United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) President Al Haj Murad Ebrahim on May 13 and 14, in a move seen as a reaffirmation of their commitment to collaborative leadership and the advocacy of Moral Governance in the Bangsamoro region.
The courtesy visit was led by Maguindanao del Norte Governor-elect Datu Tucao Mastura, alongside outgoing OIC-Governor Datu Sharifudin Tucao Mastura and Congresswoman-elect Bai Dimple Mastura of Cotabato City. Also present were Maguindanao del Sur Governor-elect Datu Ali Midtimbang, their respective vice governors—Hisham Nando (MDN) and Datu Marshall Sinsuat (MDS)—and members of both provincial boards. They were joined by local officials from Datu Odin Sinsuat, including Mayor Baba Abbas, Vice Mayor Datu Bobsteel Sinsuat, and the newly elected municipal council.

During the meeting, the leaders expressed their gratitude to the Bangsamoro electorate for their support during the 2025 elections and conveyed their shared vision of delivering inclusive, transparent, and accountable governance rooted in the principles of the UBJP and the broader Bangsamoro struggle for self-determination.

Chairman Murad welcomed the delegation and emphasized the party’s enduring mission to foster peace, ensure orderly governance, and promote meaningful development across Bangsamoro communities. He also acknowledged the growing political maturity in the region, as demonstrated by the peaceful and participatory conduct of the elections.

The reorganization of the former Maguindanao province into two distinct provinces—Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur—came after a plebiscite held on September 17, 2022, which ratified Republic Act No. 11550. The division aimed to enhance local governance and bring public services closer to communities, creating new opportunities for development and stronger administrative management under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The meeting at Camp Darapanan highlighted the evolving political landscape in the region, with newly elected leaders signaling a strong intent to align with the broader goals of the MILF and UBJP as the region continues its transition toward lasting peace and good governance.
