ICM Macacua appeals to stakeholders to set aside differences brought about by recent elections

“In this coming October electoral exercise, we urge all stakeholders of the region to unite and work with the agencies of the national government in ensuring that the confusion and hostilities which unfolded during the midterm poll campaign period and on election day will not happen again,” said Macacua.
Macacua’s statement was issued to prevent election-related hostilities that marred the just concluded national and local elections.
Macacua aims to ensure a smooth leadership transition and preserve the integrity of the electoral process in the region, which he considered as his top priorities.
“Rido” or clan feuds, which transpire between powerful clans and armed groups is affecting community stability and civilians, who have no part to the conflict.
The United Nations Development Programme considered rido or clan wars as a major barrier to stability in BARMM.
According to retired Colonel Dickson Hermoso, many of the election-related incidents they have monitored during the May 12 elections involved intimidation, coercion, show of force by rival camps, and the use of armed groups.
