MP Benito Calls for Unity Among Bangsamoro Leaders After Midterm Elections

In the wake of the midterm election held on May 12, Bangsamoro Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito issued a strong call for reconciliation and solidarity among Bangsamoro leaders during the 4th Regular Session of the Bangsamoro Parliament held on May 19, 2025.
Addressing his fellow lawmakers, MP Benito underscored the need to move beyond electoral divisions and work together for the continued peace and progress of the Bangsamoro region.

“This is not a time to stand apart; this is the time to stand together,” Benito declared, congratulating newly elected officials while also acknowledging the important role of those who were not elected.

He emphasized that leadership is not confined to holding office, but in the willingness to serve the Bangsamoro people in unity and sincerity.

Benito also commended Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua for initiating efforts toward reconciliation, calling his leadership “timely and commendable.”

He noted, “It serves as a powerful reminder that the strength of the Bangsamoro is found not in political rivalry but in collective responsibility, mutual respect, and peace-driven governance.”

MP Benito warned against allowing political divisions to derail the region’s shared mission, adding, “Let us not allow partisanship to fracture our mission. Let us serve with one heart and one purpose to protect the peace we have long struggled for.”

The lawmaker underscored the need to to focus on governance, inclusivity, and the long-term development of a just and morally upright Bangsamoro society.
