MILF Chair Urges Marcos to Rebuild Trust, Recommit to Peace Process

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on May 22, Ebrahim welcomed Marcos’ directive requiring all Cabinet secretaries to submit their courtesy resignations, describing it as a “significant and bold move” signaling a desire to recalibrate governance and strengthen public trust.
But the MILF leader emphasized that the effort should go beyond internal reforms and address concerns related to the Bangsamoro peace process. He specifically cited past decisions, such as the appointment of individuals to the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) without consultation or endorsement from the MILF.
“Let this also be an opportunity to repair the trust strained by past decisions,” Ebrahim said. “That episode weakened the spirit of partnership that has been the foundation of our peace agreements.”
He urged the President and incoming Cabinet members to reaffirm their commitment to the full and faithful implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, saying the peace process “cannot be treated as an ordinary political affair.”
“It is the product of decades of struggle, negotiation, and sacrifice,“ Ebrahim underscored.
“The MILF stands firm in its commitment to peace and principled cooperation,” he said. “We trust that the national government will do the same, so that the aspirations of the Bangsamoro for genuine autonomy and lasting peace may finally be fulfilled,” he added.
