MARAWI CITY – Hundreds of bedridden senior citizens in Lanao del Sur's second district received a significant boost to their health and well-being as the Ministry of Social Services and Development of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Muslim Mindanao (MSSD-BARMM) distributed "hadiya" Health Care Packages on May 28-29, 2025. This initiative directly addresses the needs of indigent and mobility-challenged elderly residents, bringing essential health and personal care support to their doorsteps.
A total of 628 bedridden seniors across 20 municipalities in the second district benefited from the house-to-house distribution. Each comprehensive Hadiya Care Package was meticulously curated to meet the daily health and hygiene requirements of senior citizens. Contents included a digital blood pressure monitor, finger pulse oximeter, thermoscanner, pillbox, washable urine mattress, liniment oil, alcohol with moisturizer, adult diapers, hot and cold compress, relief rub, talcum powder, back scratcher, powdered milk, socks, face towel, malong, burn ointment, antiseptic wound solution, gauze bandage roll, surgical tape, cotton balls, adhesive bandages, tissue roll, mesh bag, and a plastic storage box.
The distribution was spearheaded by OIC Provincial Social Welfare Officer Noralina Oma, operating under MSSD’s Older Persons and Persons with Disability Welfare Program (OPPWDWP).
The Hadiya Program, named after the Arabic word for “gift,” was launched in 2022 and has since become one of MSSD's flagship initiatives within the BARMM. Its core mission is to target indigent elderly, providing them with crucial health kits and personal care items. This support aims to foster well-being, encourage active aging where possible, and reduce dependency on family members. The program's overarching goal is to ensure inclusive care, leaving no senior citizen behind, especially those who are bedridden or have limited mobility.
The current distribution in Lanao del Sur is part of a broader effort by MSSD to reach 4,140 elderly beneficiaries across the entire BARMM region.
"Distributions of Hadiya Care packages were also done earlier this year at provinces of Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Special Geographic Area," stated Jaymar Sali, MSSD’s OPPWDWP Regional Focal Person.
He added that "Other provinces like Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, and Lanao del Sur-1st District are set to conduct the same distributions in the coming months."
This ongoing commitment by the Bangsamoro Government through MSSD underscores its dedication to prioritizing the health and dignity of its senior population, ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of society receive the care and attention they deserve.
