Mpox cases rise in Cotabato City, BARMM total hits 8

Dr. Harris Ali, Cotabato City Health Officer, identified the three new patients as a 28-year-old woman, a 72-year-old man, and a 4-year-old boy. The woman is currently receiving medication, while all three individuals are under home isolation.
Ali further reported that Cotabato City is currently monitoring 14 additional suspected mpox cases.
"I urge the public to visit health centers or the nearest hospital immediately if symptoms of mpox begin to appear, such as fever, cough, body aches, headache, and others," Ali advised in a radio interview, stressing the importance of early detection and intervention.
Region-wide, BARMM Health Minister Dr. Kadil Sinolinding provided an update as of June 2, stating that the Bangsamoro region now has a total of eight confirmed mpox cases, eight probable cases, and 23 suspected cases.
Sinolinding underscored that while mpox is a communicable disease, it is largely preventable through diligent hygiene and safety measures. He reiterated public health guidelines, advising residents to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, ensure proper ventilation in enclosed spaces, wash hands regularly or use hand sanitizer, and strictly avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting mpox symptoms.
"The Ministry of Health continuously conducts surveillance activities and provides necessary support and treatment based on established medical standards of care to all exposed and infected individuals," Sinolinding affirmed in a separate interview, assuring the public of ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
