MILF Central Committee Urges Respect to BARMM Election Schedule

COTABATO CITY — The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has issued a strong appeal to national authorities and stakeholders to uphold the scheduled conduct of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections on October 13, 2025.
In an official statement released Thursday, MILF Vice Chairman Mohagher Iqbal, speaking on behalf of MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and the MILF Central Committee, urged the Philippine government, Congress, the Commission on Elections, and other stakeholders to "respect and follow the schedule and timeline set by law."

“We strongly appeal to our national leaders to refrain from entertaining any proposal that will again postpone this historic election,” Iqbal said, highlighting that the elections have already been deferred twice—first in 2021 under then-President Rodrigo Duterte and again in February 2025 under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The parliamentary elections are expected to mark the formal end of the transition period in BARMM, allowing the Bangsamoro people to elect regular Members of Parliament for the first time since the region was created in 2019.

Iqbal emphasized that the MILF is committed to democratic participation through its political wing, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party, and is ready to accept the results—“even if we lose, or win.”

While no new bill has been filed to delay the elections further, the MILF expressed concern over reports of renewed attempts to push the polls to 2028. Iqbal warned that any further delay could endanger the fragile peace in the region, achieved after years of negotiations.
