Padilla Files Resolution Condemning Gaza Atrocities Amid Escalating Death Toll

Padilla emphasized that these actions constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law and called for accountability. He cited the Philippine Constitution, which renounces war and upholds international legal norms, including the protection of civilians during armed conflicts. He also noted the Philippines' commitment to international humanitarian law through its ratification of the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
The senator highlighted the widespread destruction in Gaza, including damage to homes, schools, and hospitals, and the ongoing blockade that has prevented the delivery of essential supplies. He also referenced a recent incident where at least 60 Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on crowds at a food distribution site operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
Through this resolution, Padilla is urging the Senate to take a firm stance on the Gaza crisis and advocate for the protection of human rights and adherence to international law.
As of June 2025, the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 54,000, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. This includes at least 17,000 children and over 11,000 women. The actual number is believed to be higher, as many bodies remain buried under rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescuers.
