A landmark housing project aimed at empowering displaced or marginalized Bangsamoro families was officially turned over on Friday (June 20) in Sitio Butuasan, Barangay Dahican, Mati City. The initiative, a product of inter-regional cooperation, delivered 100 solar-powered homes to Muslim residents, thanks to the partnership between the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the City Government of Mati.
In a post shared by the Mati LGU, the project was highlighted as a milestone not only for its scale and sustainability but also for being BARMM’s first completed infrastructure project outside its own political boundaries. The homes were constructed under BARMM’s Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (KAPYANAN) program and made possible through the donation of a 3-hectare property by Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat.
Each unit sits on a 130-square-meter lot and features a three-bedroom core shelter with a 30-square-meter floor area. Equipped with solar panels and high-capacity batteries, the houses provide an off-grid, eco-friendly energy solution—making it one of the few fully solar-powered Muslim communities in the region.
The ceremonial turnover was attended by officials from both BARMM and Mati LGU, including Deputy Minister Abdullah Cusain, who said the project embodied BARMM’s constitutional commitment to serve Bangsamoro citizens beyond its territory. Councilor Xander Alcantara and Roy Lopez of the MILF Provincial Political Committee also paid tribute to the late Councilor Bong Alcantara, who was instrumental in the project’s early stages.
With documentation now being finalized, beneficiary families are preparing to move into their new homes, according to City Housing Chief Ma. Eden Thelma Quiñones, the P70-million development includes additional infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems, laying the groundwork not just for shelter, but for a renewed sense of dignity and inclusion.
The KAPYANAN program is a flagship initiative of the Office of the Chief Minister (OCM), aimed at improving the quality of life in underserved Bangsamoro communities by addressing basic needs, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation, and supporting sustainable livelihood opportunities.
