U.S. Launches Airstrikes on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Amid Escalating Tensions

The United States executed coordinated strikes on three of Iran’s key nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—in the early hours of June 22, 2025, marking a historic escalation in U.S. military involvement in the region. The attacks come as part of a broader joint campaign with Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

According to Arab News, U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced that the strikes were “very successful,” stating that “all planes are now outside of Iran air space” and that the underground Fordow site had been “obliterated” using precision bunker-buster bombs. The report detailed the deployment of U.S. B 2 stealth bombers and cruise missiles in the operation, aimed at disabling Iran’s ability to enrich uranium at fortified sites.

Al Jazeera reported that the U.S. strikes followed closely after Israeli air operations that had degraded Iran’s air defense systems. Iranian authorities acknowledged the attacks but have yet to provide full details on casualties or infrastructure damage. Tehran has condemned the action as a grave violation of sovereignty and international law, warning of retaliation. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement threatened attacks on U.S. naval assets in the region.

In a strong statement, Saudi Arabia condemned the Israeli strikes that preceded the U.S. involvement. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan described them as “a blatant aggression against the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran,” calling for an immediate halt to military operations and urging all parties to return to diplomacy.

International observers have expressed grave concerns over the risk of broader regional conflict. The United Nations has called for restraint, warning that a continued escalation could destabilize the entire Middle East. Analysts say while the strikes may have achieved tactical objectives, they may also trigger a new phase of confrontation between Iran and a U.S.-Israel alliance under Trump’s revived “maximum pressure” doctrine.
