Halal Trade and Tourism Expo Showcases Mindanao’s Growing Halal Economy

The Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo recently held at SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang highlighted the growing role of halal industries in the country's economic and cultural landscape. The event gathered micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), government agencies, academic institutions, and international partners in a three-day showcase of halal-certified products and services, reinforcing Davao’s position as a ajor halal hub in the Philippines
With the theme “Showcasing Diverse Halal, Halal-Ready, and Friendly Markets of All Regions to the International Arena,” the expo featured a wide range of products and exhibits—from halal food and beverages to cosmetics, clothing, tourism services, and banking. It was organized by the Philippine Halal Advocacy Corporation in collaboration with the City Government of Davao and formed part of the Duaw Davao festivities.

One of the highlights was the Halal Global Academic Forum, which brought together students and scholars for presentations, panel discussions, and innovation pitches. The forum was co-hosted by local universities and Malaysia’s Universiti Kebangsaan, emphasizing the academic sector’s growing role in halal awareness and research. The event also offered free halal medical consultations and medicines in partnership with the Department of Health, further promoting the integration of halal principles into health and wellness services.

Entrepreneurs from Malaysia as well as local Moro and indigenous groups, participated in the expo, showcasing the cultural and economic diversity of the halal market. Products like Malaysian gourmet goods, Moro delicacies, and traditional Matigsalug crafts were among those featured. Organizers underscored that halal is not only about food compliance but is rooted in ethical standards, sustainability, and cultural respect.

Officials expressed confidence that Davao’s existing halal infrastructure—including halal-certified establishments, supporting ordinances, and an operational halal slaughterhouse—will continue to attract local and international investments. The event reinforced calls for stronger collaboration between government, industry, and academe to tap the vast potential of the global halal economy.
