BARMM approves P50 daily wage hike for private sector workers

BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua officially approved the new wage order on Thursday, emphasizing its dual consideration for both worker needs and employer realities. The order will take effect 15 days after its publication in a regional newspaper.
Minister Muslimin Sema of the BARMM's Ministry of Labor and Employment (MOLE), who also chairs the Bangsamoro Tripartite Wages Productivity Board (BTWPB), highlighted that the region-wide implementation reflects the ongoing gains of the peace process. Exemptions apply to domestic workers and those employed in registered microenterprises, as per existing laws.
The decision to raise wages comes in response to persistent calls from workers' groups advocating for a more livable wage amidst economic challenges. The wage order was officially signed by Chief Minister Macacua and BTWPB members during a ceremony at the MOLE-BARMM regional office in Cotabato City.
Specific Wage Adjustments Across BARMM:
• Cotabato City:
• Non-agricultural workers: From P361 to P411 daily.
• Agricultural workers (including plantation, non-plantation, and retail): From P336 to P386 daily.
• Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and the cities of Marawi and Lamitan:
• Non-agricultural workers: From P336 to P386 daily.
• Agricultural workers: From P326 to P376 daily.
• BARMM Special Geographic Areas (SGA):
• Non-agricultural workers: From P341 to P391 daily.
• Agricultural and retail sectors: From P316 to P366 daily.
Wage Order No. BARMM-04 was formulated after thorough consultations, socioeconomic assessments, and deliberations by the BTWPB, building upon Wage Order No. BARMM-03, which implemented a P20 increase in 2024.
