LENTE, BYC Explore Youth Engagement for BARMM Elections

In a Facebook post shared Saturday, Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) Chairperson Nas Dunding announced a courtesy visit and meeting with representatives from the Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE) at the BYC Regional Office.
According to the BYC head, his agency and LENTE, led by Director Atty. Ona Carlitos discussed possible collaborative efforts to promote youth participation in the upcoming first Parliamentary Election in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

LENTE, a non-partisan national network composed of lawyers, law students, paralegals, and grassroots volunteers, is known for its advocacy of a rights-based approach to elections and governance. It works closely with civil society organizations to promote human rights and credible electoral processes.

During the meeting, Chairperson Dunding highlighted recent BYC initiatives aimed at empowering young voters, including the Voters’ Empowerment Forum for Youth. The two parties also agreed to jointly distribute Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to various communities across the region as part of their shared commitment to clean and fair elections.

LENTE has also been actively involved in several BARMM-focused election efforts, including co-developing and distributing the Bangsamoro Electoral Code (BEC) handbook alongside the Bangsamoro Information Office and Com¬mission on Elections to educate voters ahead of the first parliamentary polls.

The Bangsamoro Youth Commission serves as the primary policy-making and coordinating body for youth affairs in the BARMM. Guided by its vision of an “empowered, morally upright, and globally competitive Bangsamoro youth,” the BYC is committed to promoting meaningful youth participation in governance and development. Its mission includes ensuring the rights, welfare, and holistic growth of young people across the region through inclusive and strategic programs.
