MARAWI CITY – A significant boost to education in Lanao del Sur was witnessed on June 27 as a total of 951 indigent students received vital educational assistance through a mass payout orchestrated by the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD). The initiative, part of the Ministry’s "Angat Bangsamoro: Kabataan Tungo sa Karunungan (ABaKa)" Program, aims to alleviate financial burdens and ensure that underprivileged youth can continue their studies.
The payout, generously funded through the Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) of Member of Parliament Khalid Hadji Abdullah, provided substantial support to students across different educational levels. Two hundred fifty (250) college students each received P10,000, while 701 high school students were granted P3,000 each.
Cahar Jamel, Project Development Officer II and Provincial TDIF Focal of MSSD–Lanao del Sur First District, emphasized the program's core objective.
"The ABaKa Program supports underprivileged students by offering financial assistance that covers their various educational expenses, including school fees, supplies, books, and projects,” Jamel stated.
The financial aid is part of an annual commitment by the MSSD, with varying amounts tailored to each educational stage: P2,000 for elementary, P3,000 for junior and senior high school, and P10,000 per year for college students, including those pursuing demanding fields like law and medicine.
7Technical-vocational students receive their assistance once per course.
This recent payout follows similar successful distributions. Jamel noted that in the preceding week, 367 college ABaKa grantees in 19 municipalities of Lanao del Sur First District received their P10,000 allowance under the Ministry’s Unlad Pamilyang Bangsamoro Program.
Beyond educational support, the MSSD has been actively rolling out payouts for its other regular programs in recent weeks across various municipalities in the province. These include "Kalinga para sa may Kapansanan" for persons with disabilities, the "DAKILA Program for Solo Parents," and "Lindkod Pamayanan para sa Kapayapaan" for peace and development initiatives.
The ABaKa Program and these parallel initiatives underscore the Bangsamoro Government’s steadfast commitment to expanding access to quality and holistic education throughout the region, fostering a brighter future for its youth.
