Sibugay fisherfolk federation onvenes for zustainable coastal management

IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY – The Sibugay Federation of Mangroves, Seaweeds, and Fishers conducted its quarterly meeting on July 21, at the XAESFI Main Office in Ipil. 

The gathering brought together 35 influential leaders representing fisherfolk associations from Ipil, Tungawan, and R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The meeting was jointly spearheaded by Mr. Nestor Carbonara, Executive Director of the Xavier Agricultural Extension Service Foundation, Inc. (XAESFI), and Mr. Darwin Matindo, Chairperson of the Sibugay Federation.

The primary objective of the assembly was to fortify collaboration among local fisherfolk and key stakeholders, ensuring a unified approach to coastal resource management. Attendees received comprehensive updates on current initiatives aimed at preserving and enhancing the region's marine ecosystems. Discussions also focused on strategic planning for future activities, reinforcing the commitment to long-term sustainability.

Through a series of informative updates, engaging discussions, and active participation from all delegates, the meeting served as a vital platform. It underscored the collective dedication to promoting the sustainable management of mangrove areas, responsible seaweed farming practices, and the preservation of fish sanctuaries, all crucial for the ecological balance and economic well-being of Zamboanga Sibugay's coastal communities.
