MILF Chairman Ebrahim Welcomes UN Resident Coordinator in Bangsamoro Development Talks

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Central Committee Chairman and United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) President Al Haj Murad Ebrahim received a courtesy visit on August 26, 2025, from United Nations Resident Coordinator Arnaud Peral, along with Matija Kovac, Head of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office; Peace and Development Consultant Melina Nathan; and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Joshua Garcia.

The meeting focused on the UN’s sustained support for peacebuilding, stabilization projects, and long-term development in the Bangsamoro region. Officials reviewed the progress and explored challenges encountered by various UN agencies in delivering their programs across the Bangsamoro.
Both parties emphasized their shared vision of promoting peace, inclusive growth, and community resilience. They agreed on the critical role of reinforced partnerships between the UN and MILF in ensuring the success of development initiatives.

The United Nations has been a consistent partner in the peace and normalization efforts in the Bangsamoro region. Through agencies like the UN Development Programme (UNDP), it has supported initiatives aimed at helping former combatants transition into civilian life, improving local governance, and strengthening community resilience.

Programs have also focused on promoting social cohesion and inclusive development, particularly in conflict-affected areas. These efforts are made possible with the support of international partners, including the governments of Japan and Australia, and reflect the UN's broader commitment to long-term peace and stability in the region.
