MBHTE enhances child protection policies in Bangsamoro schools

DAVAO CITY – The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) convened educators and stakeholders for the 2025 Updating and Strengthening of School-Based Child Protection Policy Workshop on November 4-5 at the Sotogrande Hotel, Davao City.
The two-day event aimed to bolster participants’ comprehension of child protection policies within schools. The focus was on modernizing current guidelines and collaboratively designing enhanced referral pathways. These pathways are structured to ensure that concerns affecting learners’ safety and well-being are addressed swiftly, appropriately, and with a learner-centric approach.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in lively discussions, practical workshops, and collaborative planning sessions. They reviewed existing practices, pinpointed gaps, and suggested policy enhancements tailored to the evolving requirements of students in today's educational environment.

A significant outcome of the workshop was the development of school-specific referral pathways tailored to the unique contexts of participating schools. These pathways will serve as practical guides for managing child protection matters—from initial identification and reporting through intervention and follow-up—guaranteeing that each action taken respects the learner's safety, dignity, and optimal interests.

The updated policy recommendations and new referral pathways will soon be incorporated into schools’ current child protection frameworks to further enhance coordination and response systems across educational institutions, signaling a reinforced commitment to student welfare throughout the region.
