Marcos declares March 20, 2026 as regular holiday for Eid’l Fitr

The announcement was made during the Grand Iftar at Malacañang, where the President joined members of the Muslim community and leaders from across the country, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a message to reporters on Thursday.
“The declaration recognizes the significance of Eid’l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period devoted to prayer, reflection, and fasting,” Castro stated.
The Palace extended its greetings to Muslim Filipinos and believers worldwide as they prepare to celebrate with their families and communities.
Eid’l Fitr, also known as the Festival of Breaking the Fast, is traditionally observed with prayers, family gatherings, visits to relatives and neighbors, and the wearing of new clothes.
Muslims also practice Zakat al-Fitr, a mandatory charity given before the Eid prayer to ensure underprivileged members of the community can join in the celebrations. The practice is meant to purify those who fasted and strengthen bonds within the community.
The holiday serves as a spiritual milestone, celebrating self-discipline and gratitude while encouraging reconciliation and inclusivity among all members of society.
