1,150 families in SGA receive food aid from MSSD after clashes

COTABATO CITY – A total of 1,150 families (5,415 individuals) from Barangay Damatulan in the Special Geographic Area (SGA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) received family food packs from the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) Nabalawag Unit Office on March 13, 2026.

The beneficiaries were residents displaced by armed clashes that broke out March 4 between two groups from Barangay Lomopog, SGA, and neighboring barangays of Duaminanga, Kalipapa, Dado, and Ambadao in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur.

Fearing stray bullets, residents of Barangay Damatulan were forced to flee their homes on March 5 and seek shelter in safer areas.

In response, the MSSD immediately delivered assistance through its Emergency Relief Assistance (ERA) program, distributing welfare goods containing 25 kilos of rice, canned goods, and coffee. The aid aims to address the immediate needs of displaced families while they remain in evacuation sites.

The distribution forms part of MSSD’s mandate to provide swift support to Bangsamoro communities affected by disasters or armed conflict. The agency continues to coordinate with local officials to ensure the safety and welfare of evacuees as tensions in the area are monitored for de-escalation.
