COTABATO CITY, March 13, 2026 – In a Ramadhan gesture of goodwill, Bangsamoro Parliament Member Mohagher Iqbal provided iftar packages and essential food supplies to 26 female inmates and 15 jail personnel at the Cotabato City Jail.

The distribution, organized by Iqbal’s team at the Female Dormitory along Rajah Tabunaway Street, was accompanied by a brief program aimed at fostering solidarity and sharing the spirit of generosity and reflection during the holy month.

 

The initiative was conducted in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Cotabato City, aligning with the agency’s mandate to promote humane treatment, rehabilitation, and welfare for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

 

Beyond material assistance, the activity sought to offer encouragement and moral support to both the female inmates and jail staff during the fasting period.

 

In Islam, giving charity during Ramadhan is highly emphasized. The Qur’an states: “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed that grows seven ears; in every ear there are a hundred grains” (Qur’an 2:261). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also noted: “The best charity is that given in Ramadan,” with acts of giving such as distributing food to those in need considered highly rewarding and a means to attain divine blessings.
