Over 4,000 Muslims gather for Eid prayer in Gensan; interfaith groups extend support

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — More than 4,000 Muslims from across the city converged at the Mindanao State University (MSU) CETD Grounds on March 21, 2026, for the Eid Congregational Prayer, marking the end of Ramadan. The event was organized by the City Mayor’s Office–Muslim Concerns and Affairs Division (CMO-MCAD) in partnership with the General Santos City Muslim Religious Advisory Council (MRAC).

Beyond celebrating the holy occasion, the gathering served as a platform for interfaith unity, with non-Muslim organizations and volunteers actively participating by providing meals and refreshments to attendees. The gesture was widely recognized as promoting goodwill and strengthening harmony among the city’s diverse religious communities.

Supporting groups included Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish, the Masons with their daughters from Jobs Daughters International – Bethel 37, APO Fraternity, BobsLor Foundation, and Mu Kappa Phi. Muslim individuals also contributed snacks, further enriching the spirit of generosity at the event.

Organizers expressed gratitude for both the strong turnout and the collective effort that made the occasion possible. “We are truly overwhelmed by the remarkable turnout for the Eid Congregational Prayer. The MSU CETD Grounds were filled with Muslim Generals who came together in unity to pray and celebrate this blessed day. May Allah accept all our good deeds and sacrifices. Ameen,” said Jocelyn Lambac-Kanda, Division Chief of CMO-MCAD.

She extended special thanks to all groups and individuals who shared their resources and time to ensure the event’s success.

MRAC Chairman Sheikh Ibrahim Andang Jr., who served as the khateeb, reminded the faithful to carry forward the lessons of Ramadan – including reverence for the Almighty, sacrifice, and compassion for the less fortunate. He emphasized that these values should guide daily life long after the fasting season concludes.

The organizers also acknowledged Mindanao State University for providing the venue and the Philippine National Police for helping maintain a peaceful and orderly celebration.
