ILIGAN CITY — The Philippine Ulama Congress Organization Inc., in partnership with Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), will hold a three-day Halal Competency Training from April 15 to 17, 2026, aimed at strengthening the country’s Halal workforce and supporting its growth in the global market.
The training will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily at the PRISM Lecture Hall, MSU-IIT. Dubbed Halal Competency Training – Track 1, it serves as a foundational program under the Halal Competency Framework, equipping participants with essential knowledge on Halal standards, auditing, assurance systems, and certification processes. The initiative uses a competency-based approach that combines structured learning, interactive discussions, and practical applications.
Resource persons include experts in Halal assurance, Shari’ah compliance, and quality management, who will provide guidance on auditing procedures, certification processes, and ethical practices. Participants will gain technical competence and practical skills aligned with both local and international Halal standards.
The training targets key stakeholders in Halal development, including ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) — such as the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism (MTIT), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Public Works (MPW), and Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE). Other relevant national and Bangsamoro agencies supporting the Halal industry, trade, agriculture, health, education, and economic development are also invited to participate.
The organizers said engaging these participants will strengthen institutional capacities, promote inter-agency collaboration, and ensure coordinated efforts to advance Halal compliance and market competitiveness across the region.
The program comes amid continued expansion of the global Halal industry, driving demand for professionals with expertise in both Shari’ah principles and international quality standards. As the Philippines positions itself as a key player in the ASEAN and global Halal ecosystem, workforce development has become a priority. The initiative also contributes to broader goals of economic empowerment, institutional development, and peacebuilding, while preparing participants for advanced qualifications in Halal auditing.
