UBJP official hits back at disinformation on Party policy

COTABATO CITY — Zul Qarneyn Abas, Chief Executive Officer of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) for Cotabato City, has strongly condemned the spread of misinformation on social media and in certain gatherings regarding the policies of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the UBJP.

In a statement, Abas asserted that the MILF’s standing policy is clear: there is only one recognized political party, the UBJP, in accordance with directives from leader Al Haj Murad Ebrahim. He stressed that claims to the contrary directly contradict the organization’s official position.

He further emphasized that UBJP officials and spokespersons have repeatedly clarified the truth on various issues, including allegations of member "dismissals" — which he said are entirely baseless. Despite these efforts, he noted that the narrative continues to be distorted or misrepresented across different platforms.

Abas also addressed the matter of bay’ah, or oath of allegiance to the leadership, describing it as a serious obligation under the Islamic faith. He explained that this oath is directed specifically to the Ameer — who serves as both head of the MILF and president of the UBJP — and therefore encompasses obedience to both organizations. He warned that breaking or abandoning this oath is not merely a political issue, but carries moral and spiritual accountability.

Amid the deepening discourse, Abas called on the public — particularly residents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) — to be discerning and responsible in receiving and sharing information. He underscored the importance of verifying news before believing or spreading it to prevent confusion and division within the community.

Abas stressed that the fight against disinformation is not solely the responsibility of leadership, but of the entire community — to preserve unity, truth, and the direction of the Bangsamoro.
