COTABATO CITY — The United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) has issued a strongly-worded statement condemning the continued circulation of negative, deceptive, and inflammatory content on social media, warning that such messages pose a serious threat to the Bangsamoro people's collective progress.
In a press release dated April 22, 2026, the UBJP said the disinformation campaign is unfolding at a critical juncture — as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and its institutions prepare for the historic first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections. The party warned that false and misleading information could sow division, erode public trust in government institutions, and undermine the democratic process.
The UBJP pointed to what it described as a pattern of coordinated disinformation, noting strong indications that the malicious content is being driven by third-party actors — individuals or organizations with hidden agendas — who seek to exploit the election season to advance their own interests. The party cautioned that such activities often amount to what Islamic tradition refers to as Fitna — the deliberate spreading of discord and chaos within a community.
"We call on all supporters, leaders, media practitioners, and citizens to be responsible in their use of social media," the UBJP said, stressing that freedom of expression must never be weaponized to spread lies, incite anger, or harm others without basis.
The party also drew a firm line between legitimate political discourse and personal attacks, emphasizing that while the exchange of ideas is a cornerstone of democracy, character assassination and targeted harassment of individuals have no place in a healthy democratic conversation. It urged the public to keep discussions focused on issues of importance to the Bangsamoro community rather than descending into personal attacks.
The UBJP further called on the public to practice information literacy — to verify content before sharing it and to rely only on credible and trustworthy sources. It appealed for a culture of discourse that deepens understanding rather than inflames division.
The party closed its statement by reaffirming its commitment to truth, accountability, and unity as it continues to work toward the advancement of the Bangsamoro people.
The UBJP is led by Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, the chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the first Chief Minister of the BARMM.
