Bangsamoro Speaker Yacob honored with Madinah alumni award

The award recognizes distinguished alumni for their outstanding achievements in academia, professional service, and public leadership. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Yacob announced the recognition on his official Facebook page on April 30, 2026. In his statement, he expressed deep appreciation for the honor, describing it as “both a privilege and a responsibility.” He thanked Saudi officials and the university community for their continued support in advancing education and development, stressing the vital role of knowledge in fostering peace and strengthening communities.
He also congratulated the graduating class, encouraging them to apply their education in service to humanity and the broader Muslim ummah while upholding the values of lifelong learning, peace, and public service.
Yacob currently serves as Speaker of the Bangsamoro Parliament. He previously served as Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform in the Bangsamoro government.
Prior to his ministerial roles, he spent nine years as executive director of the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA), the development arm of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), overseeing development programs in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao.
He earned his degree in Shari’ah from the Islamic University of Madinah and later completed his doctorate at Cotabato State University in Cotabato City.
The award highlights Yacob’s sustained contributions to governance, development, and peacebuilding in the Bangsamoro region
