BDI, BHB strengthen partnership to advance halal development in BARMM

COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta (BDI) and the Bangsamoro Halal Board (BHB) have strengthened their partnership to further advance halal development initiatives in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), focusing on capacity-building efforts and training programs that promote proper halal standards and practices grounded in Islamic principles.

The two institutions held a coordination meeting on May 4, 2026, during which they reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the growth of the halal industry in BARMM through coordinated programs and activities aligned with recognized halal standards and Shari'ah principles. The BDI disclosed the meeting in a post on its official Facebook page on May 12, 2026.

Under the partnership, the BDI will lead the development and implementation of halal training programs, including the supervision of scheduling and conduct of related activities to ensure effective delivery of programs for stakeholders and communities across the region.

Among the key agreements reached was the joint conduct of a writeshop for the enhancement and development of a slaughtering module — an initiative aimed at improving training materials that will guide halal slaughtering practices and strengthen compliance with Islamic requirements. The finalized module will serve as the basis for future training sessions and awareness activities across the Bangsamoro region.

The BDI serves as the official Islamic advisory body of the BARMM, mandated to provide guidance on Islamic laws and jurisprudence, issue fatwa on religious concerns, and promote the application of Shari'ah principles in governance and community affairs. It also supports programs related to Islamic education, moral governance, peacebuilding, and halal development across the region.

The initiative forms part of the Bangsamoro Government's continuing efforts to strengthen its halal sector through the Bangsamoro Halal Industry Development Plan (BHIDP) 2025–2030, which aims to position BARMM as the country's leading halal industry hub. The plan focuses on strengthening halal governance, increasing halal-certified products and services, attracting investments, empowering local enterprises, and expanding access to domestic and international halal markets as part of the region's long-term economic development agenda.
