Thousands gather in emergency peace rally in Cotabato City

Organizers described the gathering as a peaceful demonstration calling for unity among the Bangsamoro people amid rising political tensions and concerns surrounding the Bangsamoro government. Participants emphasized the critical need to preserve dialogue, mutual respect, and cohesion to safeguard the hard-won gains of the peace process.
The rally drew diverse sectors, including former combatants, youth groups, religious leaders, women’s organizations, and ordinary citizens from various provinces across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Many carried banners and placards with slogans such as “Unity for Peace” and “Protect the Bangsamoro Peace Process.”
Local authorities and security personnel monitored the perimeter of the Bangsamoro Government Center to ensure order. Organizers closely coordinated with law enforcement, and the entire event proceeded peacefully.
During the program, several speakers underscored that peace in the region is the culmination of decades of sacrifice, negotiations, and collective struggle by the Bangsamoro people and leadership. They reminded the crowd that differences in political opinion should not cause division within the movement or the broader community.
The organizers also reiterated their appeal to both the National Government and the MILF leadership to strengthen cooperation and fully execute the remaining provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) to maintain regional stability and trust.
The rally concluded with a collective prayer for unity, justice, reconciliation, and lasting peace across the Bangsamoro homeland.
