MILF panel mourns IDB foreign expert Haji Azlan bin Haji Abdul Ghani

COTABATO CITY — The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Peace Implementing Panel on Sunday expressed condolences over the death of Haji Azlan bin Haji Abdul Ghani, Brunei Darussalam's representative to the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB), who died on September 20.

​MP Mohagher Iqbal, chair of the MILF Peace Implementing Panel, paid tribute to Haji Azlan's service in an official message of condolences.

"Mr. Haji Azlan served with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to implementing the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) and advancing a crucial and sensitive aspect of the Normalization process," Iqbal said.

Iqbal said Haji Azlan's contributions reflected Brunei Darussalam's long-standing friendship with the Bangsamoro people and its role in fostering lasting peace in Mindanao.

"On behalf of the MILF Peace Implementing Panel, I extend our deepest sympathies to his bereaved family, the Government and people of Brunei Darussalam, and his colleagues in the IDB. We share in their grief and honor his meaningful service to peace. May Allah SWT grant him mercy and welcome him into Jannatul Firdaus," Iqbal added.

The IDB is an independent mechanism jointly established by the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the MILF under the Normalization process of the 2014 CAB. It oversees the decommissioning of MILF forces, known as the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), and their weapons, and facilitates the transition of former combatants into civilian life. Its board is composed of international experts from countries including Türkiye, Norway, and Brunei Darussalam, alongside local representatives appointed by the GPH and the MILF.
