The Base Commander of 109th Base Command of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF-MILF) urged the participants of a peace assembly that it conducted at Datu Paglas, Maguindanao on April 22, 2016 to sustain the gains of the peace process between the GPH and the MILF.

The Base Commander also emphasized the essence of the Moro Front’s struggle towards right to self-determination. ‘’You should always bear in mind the importance of our struggle and the value of the gains of the peace process”, he said.

“With the upcoming election we must adhere to the hands-off policy of the MILF and for those of you who are allowed to vote, we ask you to choose leaders who can sincerely help us pursue our struggle towards our right to self-determination”, the Base Commander also said.

On the hand, we will not choose leaders who opposed and who will oppose the passage of proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in 17th Congress”, the Base Commander said.

“All of us are responsible in strengthening the programs of our organization to gain back our long-lost freedom in our homeland”, the Base Commander added.

The veteran commander also emphasized that political struggle is the practical way of achieving justice and freedom for the Bangsamoro and homeland.

Esmael Abdula, Executive Director of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute (KPI), and BLMI Steering Committee Member, explained briefly ‘Path to Peace’ that refers to the Moro political struggle which started long years ago.

“The MILF is determined to pursue the democratic struggle through the peace process and shall continue to urge the upcoming administration to faithfully implement the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) through the passage of the BBL”, Abdula said.

Moreover, Abdula urged the BIAF members who were in attendance to maintain its defensive posture and avoid making provocative acts in adherence to the peace accord and the ceasefire mechanisms”, Abdula said.

Abdula underscored the importance of choosing a good leader who can support the Bangsamoros’ clamor for right to self-determination, and one the Moro people can rely on.

“In your hand lies the hope of our children, women and elders in order to achieve freedom and lasting peace in our communities”, he added.

“You must assert the passage of BBL  as enabling law for the establishment of a new region called Bangsamoro, and the answer to the Bangsamoro Question”, Abdula stressed.
