Enabling law will translate everyone’s aspiration for lasting peace and dev’t in Mindanao: MILF Chair

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chairman Al Hajj Murad Ebrahim said in his speech at Malacanang Palace today (Nov 7) that the proposed enabling law to be crafted by the reconstituted Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) will realize the aspiration of both Filipino and Bangsamoro people  for lasting peace and development.

“It is a law that will translate aspiration of everyone for lasting peace and development,” the MILF head stressed during the ceremony of the signing of the Executive Order that will reconstitute the BTC.

The expanded BTC will be constituted by 21 members, 11 will be nominated by MILF and 10 by the government.

The body is mandated to draft a new Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), an enabling legislation that will pave way for the establishment of autonomous political entity for the Bangsamoro.

The enabling law will be drawn from the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro and the 1996 Final Peace Agreement between the Philippine Government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

“I’m here today to witness the rebirth of a new hope that we may finally achieve, the fulfillment of promise of a peace agreement,” said Murad.

In his speech, Duterte said, “Unless we have mechanism that facilitates justice, there will be no lasting peace.

He pointed out, “My only desire is for peace in Mindanao to finally come.”

MILF Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal said the Front remains committed to the peace process.

He appealed to the members of the Philippine Congress to fast track the passage of the proposed enabling law.

The ceremony was witnessed by government officials and Bangsamoro leaders.
