Datu Abul Khayr Alonto, chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), briefed the delegation of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinz? Abe on the investment potential of the region during a business forum held at Davao City.
Alonto disclosed the unprecedented improvements Mindanao has been experiencing and the significant developments of the region’s economy during the event organized by the Department of Trade and Industry in partnership with the Davao City Investment Promotion Center.
Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Prime Minister Abe graced the event entitled Philippines-Japan Business Forum participated by more two hundred delegates comprised of key Japanese officials and Mindanao representatives and businessmen.
Alonto further conveyed the average annual investment between 2011 to 2015 that climbed to US$1.2 billion compared in 2001 to 2010 which only averaged to US$125 million.
The MinDA head said Mindanao, known as the food basket of the country, is blessed with favourable agro-climatic condition, fertile soil and rich biodiversity making the island suitable for agribusiness and food production.
MinDA has a mandate to promote, coordinate and facilitate the active and extensive participation of all sectors to effect the socioeconomic development of Mindanao. (Info source: MinDA)
