MILF Peace Implementing Panel holds Conference with Bangsamoro Youth in Pursuit of Peace in Mindanao

MILF-Peace Implementing Panel headed by Chairman Mohagher Iqbal with the support of Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (CHD) and the European Union (EU) held a conference with Bangsamoro Youths  related to the quest for peace in Mindanao.

The conference with a theme : “Role of the Bangsamoro Youth in the Pursuit of Peace in Mindanao” was attended by 124 Moro Youth aging from 18-35 from the different regions in Mindanao, held at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City last January 12 & 13, 2017.

The conference aims to provide awareness among the youth regarding the peace process and its updates along with radicalism and extremism in Islam. The resource speakers were from the youth sector, scholars of Islam, and senior leaders from the MILF and MNLF factions of Nur Misuari represented by Atty. Randolph ‘Bong’ Parcasio and Muslimin Sema, represented by Vice Chairman Hatimil Hassan.

The program officially commenced with a recital of some verses from the Noble Qur’an by Mr. Fahad Tahir, a participant. It was followed by opening remarks by Ustadz Mahmod Ahmad, Executive Director of the Bangsamaoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI).

 A representative of CHD’s Country Representative Ms. Suzanne Damman and Prof. Abhoud Syed Lingga, from the MILF-Peace Implementing Panel made the welcome address.

Four lecture sessions were held, with the lectures on Youth and the Search for Peace in Mindanao delivered by Mr. Sammy Buat, Mr. Yusoph Lumambas, Mr. Ali Ayub, and Mr. Marjanie Mimbantas.

A lecture on Islam and Violent Extremism were delivered by Ustadz. Abdulhadie Gumander, Ustadz. Mohammad Pak, and Prof. Moner Bajunaid.

On the second day, Iqbal presented and discussed Bangsamoro Situation and Updates. MNLF Response to Radicalism given by Hassan, Atty. Parcasio and Chairman Iqbal.
The open forum was facilitated by Dr. Norodin Salam, Dr. Zulqarnaen Abas, Uz. Mahmod Ahmad and Mr. Wahab Guialal.

Plenary Sessions included discussion on the Role of Youth in the Bangsamoro Unfolding Situation and resolution and planning.

The Asia Foundation, Institute of Autonomy and Governance (IAG), OPPAP, and GPH Peace Implementing Panel attended as observers. The conference ended with the Film Viewing of the Highlights on the Bangsamoro History and the Peace Process facilitated by Dr. Zulqarnaen Abas.

Mr. Wahab Guialal was the master of the ceremony.
