The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Sunday said it is optimistic that the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) will be passed soon, as previous issues have now been addressed, said a report by GMA News on June 25.
In an interview on GMA's Super Radyo dzBB, MILF Political Affairs Chief Ghazali Jaafar said he expects the BBL to be passed into law by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
"Yes we are confident in the BTC that it will be passed. There are two main factors why the first BBL failed to pass by congress.
“These two factors are the opposition of non-Muslim residents to the BBL, as well as politics in Congress”, Jaafar told GMA News.
"During that time, some major stakeholders of the peace process were not contented with the old BBL but this time we addressed these factors, Jaafar disclosed.
Aside from this, Jaafar told GMA News that the BBL was not passed into law under the previous administration due to the Mamasapano incident in 2015 that stalled the deliberations.
"It was very unfortunate the Mamasapano incident happened", he said.
