BIAF 109th Base Command and Datu Paglas LGU conduct Peace Advocacy

DATU PAGLAS-MAGUINDANAO-  The Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) 109th Base Command of the Moro Islamic liberation Front in partnership with the local government of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao conducted peace advocacy with the theme “let us unite, uphold and support Bangsamoro Basic Law 2017 towards Winning Just and Dignified, Peace and Development’’ yesterday , August 19, 2017 at Datu Paglas Gym.

Hon. Abubakar P. Paglas, Mayor of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao exhibited a presentation that tells about “Understanding violent extremism in Mindanao: a case Study.”

He said “I am reminding you parents, be watchful to the ten local terrorist based in the Philippines that will continue to recruit young people to be part of them and convince them in exchange of money. 

He also said that in mainland Mindanao the local terrorists will recruit college students, higher level students of madrasah, young idealistic with potential leadership and those that belong to the middle class families. 

In the island province, they recruit young, poor and with less education, usually children and relatives of MNLF and MILF fighters most of whom suffered from loss of family members due to conflict.

Towards the end of his presentation, he emphasized that the Municipality of Datu Paglas is committed extend full support to the peace process between the GPH and MILF.  

Esmael A. Abdula, BLMI Steering Committee member, Concurrently President of Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute Inc.(KPI) spoke on Updates on GPH-MILF Peace Process and the Status of the draft BBL 2017.  

He said, the problem of Bangsamoro people have gained international sympathy and support after

the signing of two major political documents (FAB and CAB) between the GPH and the MILF.

And lastly, he quoted President Rodrigo R. Duterte who said, “Nothing can appease the Moro people except to correct the historical injustices committed against them.

1Lt Marc P. Fernandez (INF) PA, Commander of Bravo Company, 33rd IB of 6ID explained the Comparison between the Martial Law of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos and that of President Duterte.

Fernandez said “that there is a suspension of writ of habeas corpus where suspected violators of state can be arrested without warrant of arrest. He also said that the only authorized persons to carry firearms are members of AFP and PNP”. However, Local Government Units and that of Civil Courts shall continue to function without interference from the national government.

 Lastly he said, “Let us unite to eliminate extremism in our country.
