Mindanao’s 1st Museyu Kutawato Launched in Kidapawan

COTABATO CITY- Museyu Kutawato is launched today, April 19, 2018 inside the Cotabato Provincial Capitol Ground in Amas, Kidapawan City.

Almost four years in the making, a multi-cultural curatorial team collaborated to conceptualize the Museyo Kutawato’s exhibition narrative. It tells the story of the only province that retained the original name of vast Cotabato prior to its division into five provinces.

Private citizens, rich and poor, from Moro, Indigenous Peoples and settler communities then enthusiastically participated to build the museum’s primary collections such as artifacts, etc.

In the well -attended launching, notably present were Secretary Jesus G. Dureza, Rep. Nancy A.Catamco,  Rep. Raymond  Democrito C. Mendoza, Former Mayor Ludovico Badoy, and Rep. Jose I. Tejada.

 From the church were Fr. Eliseo Mercado Jr., Fr. Joel E. Tabora, Bishop Jose Colin M. Bagaforo and many friends from Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Cutting of ribbon was done by OPAPP Sec. Jess Dureza, and MILF Peace Implementing Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal.

A delighted Provincial Governor, Emmylou   “Lala” Talino Mendoza actively welcomes the guests. Her lively hosting of the event may be attributed to her joining of province’ declaring to the world that through its cultural heritage, barriers can be broken, so unity and peace can be achieved.

In the two-storey building museum, a visitor can find diorama of the landscape of the province enclosed in a thick glass. Some permanent collections on ethnographic of the Cotabato people, historical objects, archival documents and maps of Cotabato history can also be seen inside the Museyu Kutawato.

The museum is open to the public Mondays to Fridays, 9 am to 4 pm, except on public holidays. Admission is free.
