Bangsamoro teachers thank Malaysia for the capacity development training

Bangsamoro educators from Mindanao  expressed their utmost thank to the Malaysian government for providing the capacity development training under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

Fourteen Bangamoro teachers and two Islamic school administrators completed the training entitled “Capacity Development for Bangsamoro Teachers and Administrators of Primary Schools in Southern Philippines” held on August 26 to September 20, 2019 at Institute of Teacher Education International Language Campus in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Under the tutelage by a pool of senior lecturers and trainers, the four-week course included academic interactions, educational field trips, field work and attending cultural events.

“Each destination we visited was beautiful and it has its own unique scenery that I would proudly share to my family and friends in the Philippines,” said Sittie Hawa Yasser from Parang, Maguindanao.

She underscored that the learnings the trainees acquired was very helpful to improve the respective schools where they are teaching.

“The one that made me excited in the lecture was learning Bahasa Melayu (Malaysian language),” said Myra Daud Calihim from Al-Munawarra Islamic School at Davao City.

“Thanks, Dr. Moh’d Ghazali Bin Taib, for teaching us how to speak and count in Malaysian,” Norhidaya Ali Saripada, a public school teacher from Datu Acad Dalid Elementary School in General Santos City said. 

“Madam Ooi Choon Meng also taught us how to do story-telling using puppets. This teaching strategy brings fun to the learners and I will apply it in my class,” she added.

“I admire so much how these opportunities would help me improve myself in various ways,” Yunus Sandung from Zamboanga said. He was also impressed how the Malaysian schools promote respect and love to one another.

“These good educational system, good schools, tall buildings and towers emphasized how high their potentials and concrete their aptitudes are to conquer their dreams,”Saprolla Rollie Deporos from Wisdom Islamic School at Davao City said.

Well-impressed of the Malaysian education system, Rohannah Pinguiaman from Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao noted how the Malaysian government puts huge investments in education manifested by ideal class sizes, adequate and high-tech school facilities such as smartboard. 

“These really reinforce teaching-learning process,” she said and wished that in her own homeland in the future, the Bangsamoro children will also experience studying in schools like that of Malaysia.

In a visit at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama, an Islamic school in Kuala Lumpur, Abdurrahman Mababaya, supervisor of Wisdom Islamic School in Davao City, was amazed how the school was able to produce students who memorized the Holy Qur’an but at the same time achieved a lot in sports and technology.

“This is something that inspired me even more to find ways to advance in our academic performances without sacrificing our Islamic values,” he said.

The MTCP Implementing Team was comprised of Dr. Nagalingam Karuppah, Dr. Chong Poh Wan, Dr. Chandran Ebenazer, Dr. Moh’d Ghazali Bin Taib, Mdm. Ooi Choon Meng, Mdm. Lee Sow Ying, Mr. Varugheese Chacko and Mr. Markhantan Murugiah.

Other MTCP participants were Asraf Manan, Raheema Tahir-Jayari, Sittie Najmah Sarepada, Andrada  Tupay, Harfeesah Tahir, Norain Desalungan, Hja Jahara Ladjaalam and Soraida Macadatar-Kinjiyo.

Baidido Abas Panda, the participant from Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, said the training was indeed a fruitful and will surely enhance their leadership, management and teaching skills that would help achieve quality education for the Bangsamoro.
