BARMM’s Darul Ifta announces Eidul Fitr will be on May 24, 2020

The Regional Darul Ifta (RDI) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has announced that Eidul Fit’r will be on Sunday May 24, 2020.
The announcement was made by the Mufti of the Bangsamoro, Sheikh Abuhuraira Udasan, which also heads the BARMM-RDI following the non-sighting of the moon on Friday evening which is the 29th day of Ramadhan.

Eidul Fitr is one of the two major holidays in the Islamic world which marks the end of the holy month of fasting.

In accordance with the tradition of Prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h) wherein Muslims must do the moonsighting on the 29th day of Ramadhan, BARMM-RDI has deployed Ulama is strategic sites of the Bangsamoro region and other provinces of the country to check if the crescent moon would be visible during the sunset.

If the moon is sighted, the following day will be the Eidul Fitr, however if not, fasting will continue completing a 30-day Ramadhan.

Celebration of this Muslim holiday starts with congregational Eidul Fitr prayer usually held in open area.

However due Covid-19 pandemic, RDI has issued a religious advisory that Muslim Filipinos should perform the Eid prayer at their homes.

This is to avoid the spread of the dreaded virus that swept nations killing thousands of victims.
