BTA PARLIAMENT starts 2nd Regular Session

Cotabato City (June 19, 2020)- After more than two months of long break due to the emergence of COVID-19 Pandemic worldwide, the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament has finally opened its Second Regular Session, Wednesday, June 17 with 52 Members of Parliament (MPs) physically participated, while 17 responded via video conference. The BTA Parliament is composed of 80 members representing the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and the government.
Hon. Sheik Khalifa Nando, the Wali of the Bangsamoro performed his ceremonial duty of opening the Second Regular Session of the Bangsamoro Parliament.

Interim Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim who graced the occasion as a tradition hailed the Parliament for continuing legislative work amidst the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Our session today marks the Parliament's preparedness to embrace the new normal in order to assure that our mandate gets fulfilled despite of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” Ebrahim said during the opening session held inside Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC), Bangsamoro Government Center in Cotabato City.

Furthermore, Ebrahim noted the Bangsamoro Government's efforts in battling Covid-19 is a testament to its commitment to prioritize the welfare of the people.

“Siniguro natin na ang Bangsamoro Government ay ramdam ng tao,” he stressed.

Speaker Ali Pangalian Balindong proposed amendments on the proposed resolution approving the enhancement made by the Committee on Rules on the Parliamentary Rules, Procedures, and Practices of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the Resolution adopting a new calendar of session for the First Regular Session of the BTA Parliament, repealing for the purpose the BTA Resolution No. 22.

One amendment proposed by Speaker Balindong was that the BTA shall convene its regular session once every year on the second Tuesday of Eid’l Fitr and not later than thirty (30) days before the opening of the next regular session. 

Speaker Balindong also proposed that at the beginning of its regular session, ICM Ebrahim presents before the BTA the policies and programs of the Government of the Day. 

Meanwhile, proposed Resolution No. 223 authored by several Members of Parliament (MP), commended front liners in the Bangsamoro Region for their unselfish service in the fight against Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).

The MPs also approved a resolution commending Princess Fatima Parahiman who placed second in the 2019 Bar Examination, and other new Bangsamoro lawyers. 

Those who participated in the deliberations of agenda were MP Atty. Lanang Ali, Jr, MP Don Mustapha Loong, MP Khadafeh Mangudadatu,  MP Raissa Jajurie, MP Baintan Adil Ampatuan, MP Jamel Macaraya,  MP Mawallil Amilbahar, MP Edrieza Nasser Rimbang, MP Paisalin Tago, MP Abdulraof Macacua, MP Ali Sangki, MP Haron Abas, and others.

The Members of Parliament (MPs) in attendance, and their staff followed the health protocol by wearing mask, and the standards set by the Bangsamoro Inter-Agency Task Force (BIATF) on Covid-19 in holding events not exceeding 50% of actual capacity of the venue.
