GPH, MILF reaffirm commitment to fulfill the implementation of peace agreement

The Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) reaffirmed their commitment to pursue the implementation of the signed peace agreements during the peace conversation for the Bangsamoro held online last Wednesday (Sept 23).
“It is indeed inspiring to see that despite the challenges brought about by the global health crisis, the Bangsamoro Peace Process continues to move forward, as stakeholders remain united by their common goal of achieving long-lasting peace and sustainable development in Muslim Mindanao,” Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. said in his message.

MILF Chairman and Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim said “The MILF remains committed to pursue the timeline already set under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro and under the Bangsamoro Organic Law.”

Ebrahim noted that most people at present have experienced unprecedented circumstances because of the pandemic that obliged them to be more flexible and yet adherent to the peace accord.

“We remain optimistic that we will be able to lay down all the necessary foundation of the regular Bangsamoro Government by the end of the transition phase, in shaa Allah,” the Bangsamoro chief minister added.

With common objective to achieve lasting peace in Southern Philippines, the government and MILF signed the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro on October 12, 2012 and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro on March 27, 2015.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law on July 26, 2018 Republic Act 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law that paved the way for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and abolished the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Amidst the health crisis brought by corona virus, the Bangsamoro Government pursues the passage of crucial legislations and implementation responsive programs and projects that address the needs of the Bangsamoro people.
