Worldwide corona virus deaths pass one million

Worldwide deaths brought by Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) pass one million as of Monday (Sept 28, 2020).
Covid-19 has swept in 217 countries all over the world affecting lives, slowing down economies and still spreading fast.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there were reported 33,249,563 confirmed cases with 1,000,040 deaths as of Tuesday (Sept 29).
The record of WHO shows United States of America has most number of deaths (203,620), followed by Brazil (141,741) and India (96,318).
On the confirmed cases by region, the WHO recorded the Americas having the highest number with 16,434,186 cases.
It is followed by South-East Asia (6,888,331), Europe (5,765,369, East Mediterranean (2,373,545), Africa (1,179,152) and Western Pacific (608,239).
The Muslim country with highest number of deaths is Iran which logged a figure of 25,779.
According to the WHO there are currently over 169 COVID-19 vaccine candidates under development, with 26 of these in the human trial phase.
Its Director General on Monday remarked in a media briefing, “I’m pleased to announce that thanks to an agreement between WHO and partners here today and others, a substantial proportion of these rapid tests – 120 million – will be made available to low- and middle-income countries.”
