Zamboanga City Bangsamoro Religious Leaders meet to discuss BTA extension period

RECODO, Zamboanga City- December 20. 2020. Calling for the extension period for Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) to 2025 was among the topics discussed during the periodical meeting of Bangsamoro religious leaders in Recodo, Zambaoanga City, Thursday, December 19.

Ustadh Taha Daranda, head of Civil Society Organization (CSO) in Zambaoanga City has been intensifying peace-building advocacies in the grassroots Bangsamoro communities to enhance various sector’s understanding of the bills filed in the House of Representatives to extend Bangsamoro Transition Authority until 2025.

“During this crucial period of transition of Bangsamoro Government, we, peace advocates should not slow-down our efforts in enhancing the rights of our fellow Bangsamoro especially in the remote villages for their social needs but also the right information on the implementation of the peace agreement particularly the operation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM),” Ustadz Daranda said.

“The face-value of the peace agreement is in its implementation phase, challenges are normal, yet consistency in the implementation is imperative, and one way to sustain it is to give enough time to implementing bodies, and agencies by extending the BTA period to 2025 or even beyond that period until the normalization tract in the peace agreement is fully complied by both concerned parties,” Imam Jaji said.       

“Our humble appeal to Philippines Congress, and President Rodrigo R. Duterte is to extend the BTA period until the landmark peace-agreement is fully implemented, and truly served its purpose for our collective concern is to have a doable and long-lasting peace and development in the region, the community religious leaderrs stressed.
