Bangsamoro People’s Coalition call for BTA extension

The Bangsamoro People’s Coalition (BPC) called for the extension of Bangsamoro Transition Authority in a prayer rally held at the covered court of Barangay Culiat, Tandang Sora in Quezon City on July 26, 2021. The BPC is a network of Muslim groups representing different sectors all over the country that urged president Duterte to certify urgent the bills seeking extension of the Bangsamoro transition period from 2022 to 2025.

In the said activity, the BPC issued its statement as follows:

Statement of the Bangsamoro People’s Coalition for BTA Extension during the State of the Nation Address of President Duterte (July 26, 2021)

"Our communities have spoken and clearly defined the peace and development track in the Bangsamoro Region. Our leaders overwhelmingly supported the clamor of our communities and basic sectors. We have already reached out to our national leaders with very clear candid intentions and truthful and timely proposals which mostly mirrored the continuity of the gains of peace based on the concrete condition of our people and communities.

The united  proposal of our leaders and communities are now being articulated in the halls of both legislative chambers. These proposals behind our call for the extension of Bangsamoro Transition period are reflections of our noble intentions and ideals not only to just deliver the basic services but more importantly to become united in our journey to develop our beloved region. We believe that a developed BARMM reflects how effective the support of the national government. And as we aspire for a stronger  Regional government, we need the legislative and other equally important support of the national government in order to effect the qualitative changes in our region economically and in the socio-cultural arena.

We call for the Divine Intervention to pour mercy and steadfastness and shower it upon those mindful and peace-loving people with loving hearts such as our beloved legislators  for their understanding and benevolence to support our call to extend the Bangsamoro transition period by way of postponing the BARMM elections to 2025.

We pray for the Divine Intervention to soften the hearts of those who continue to oppose our people’s noble proposal. We pray that our national leaders will finally acknowledge how imperative the extension will be in this time of health emergency where the spending priority should focus on economic recovery and containing health emergency.  Extending the transition period outweighs the conduct of elections in BARMM. Spending on elections in times of massive cases of economic dislocations defeat the very purpose of any economic recovery efforts. There is No truthful economic growth through spending without any production output. Thus, elections might be rightfully right but the situation is not only untimely but wasteful and inappropriate as well.

Extending the Bangsamoro transition period will save milions of pesos for the national govt which can be utilized  as added funds to address economic and health concerns of many communities.

The extension period will pave the way for the national government to implement its commitment as espoused in the Peace Agreement it signed with the Moro Islamic Liberation  Front (MILF) and the Bangsamoro Government will be able to finish its task as specified in the Peace Agreement and the Bangsamoro Organic Law ((BOL).

Lets face it, the realization of our aspiration is now at the hands of our beloved legislators whom we pray would live up to the expectations of our people whose ultimate needs is lasting peace and genuine development.

To our beloved Pres Duterte, kindly continue the gains of peace as we nurture our ranks toward a peaceful and progressive country we all want to happily and safely live.  Dont miss this seldom opportunity for lasting peace to reign in the Bangsamoro region. This is your legacy, Mr. President".
