Maranao ‘Hero Teacher’ distributes free study tables for public school learners

A Maranao educator recognized as ‘Hero Teacher’ in 2020 by Gokongwei Brother Foundation (GBF) distributed free study tables for the pupils of Datu Acad Dalid Elementary School (DADES) in Buayan, General Santos City early this August.

Soraida Macadatar Kinjiyo, an Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) teacher of DADES, was chosen by GBF and Smart Parenting as Hero Teacher for going extra mile during the onset of corona virus pandemic.

She related that the study tables were bought from the P15,000 cash prize given by GBF intended to support her advocacy.
“I think these study tables will be very useful to our learners while studying at home during this pandemic and especially to those who will participate in the summer reading activity,” Teacher Soraida said.

Recipients of the study tables expressed their gratitude to the sponsor.
DADES Principal Joel A. Montojo, Jr commended Teacher Soraida for the accomplishment and for bringing the name of DADES in the limelight.

Schools Division ALIVE Coordinator Hanena L. Epino congratulated Teacher Soraida for her accomplishments and hoped that other teachers will emulate what she has done.

“I am sure that the learners who will receive the free study tables will be happy,” Epino said.

Teacher Soraida’s accomplishments included initiating activities helping others like fetching modules from schools division office to DADES, driving co-teachers from Sarangani to school and back during lockdown where transportation was difficult, and organizing outreach activity - providing food packs and cash for parents of DADES pupils in dire needs due to pandemic.

She also mobilized resources from benevolent donors to share food packs for co-ALIVE teachers of General Santos City and Sarangani Province.

For five years already, Teacher Soraida has been assisting an orphanage in Polomolok, South Cotabato providing toiletries and foods and recently extended similar assistance to girl orphans in General Santos City studying in Qur’an Learning Centers.
